it says it's waiting yeah that's interesting so well there's somebody just jumped on said you're live so your phone is behind the times so William thank you for being with us you have any questions we are here to answer them hope you're having a good day and getting ready for the holidays yeah this is usually a a slow time of the year people want to get their projects wrapped up and get the Christmas tree up yeah so will where's will where are you from William and you got a any questions so we're going to be trying to answer questions I think it's a little bit bright I think you're a little bit too bright I think so I think so and I you know as we technical difficulties um for whatever reason my phone says it's not whoa wow yeah I turned my Wi-Fi off that's better now you're not so bright that's good but I just don't know why it doesn't show us I don't know why it doesn't show you either so um yeah whoa but we are live so okay but it still doesn't show us yeah that's that's interesting so um but I don't know whether that matters or not well it does William if you can see the the stream you could see us and not just a picture of us yeah so um Central Louisiana um yeah that can you see yeah he just chatted he said um we've never been to Louisiana no no no so tell us how business is and what what you're doing and if you have any questions and what's the weather like in Louisiana it's freezing cold inversion here right now um I just I don't know yeah I don't know either but I don't know know you need to worry about it but okay well um if it's not working usually we restart it well William says it's working did you say that you can see us so William let us know if you can see us or if it's just a picture of us we're trying to figure out if this is working we're the word would be rusty there's 20 people on right now okay well you need to say hi and ask a question maybe your phone is Rusty maybe you just close that out I I just did I did but that's fine I won't worry about it but I can't read that from here so if there was any questions I could read them that's why I need my phone I um close your phone out and then restart it okay I'll do that so why don't you share he says that yeah it's working you're all chatting and moving okay that's good to know so Chris why don't you share we were just over in Dublin in Ireland and then we were in London and then Netherlands tell us tell me share with your audience some of the things you did did there it was cool we went there for work yeah we were over there for Premier paintbrush and roller so we uh went over there to you know show up in like five paint stores in in Ireland in London uh so that was kind of cool I got to meet um painters from not just those countries but all over the world so remember cool um Morocco um Lithuania Germany um mova um yeah do you remember any other ones Poland Poland we met some from Poland that was kind of cool yeah so from all over the place that was that was actually really cool so um that was kind of one of the cool what did you learn about painting If You Were A Painter in London would it look very different than in Boise i' have yeah I mean you know it looks quite a bit different obviously the weather is quite a bit different um you know the exteriors look quite a bit different I would say they're probably 90% you know brick so you know you're kind of doing wood suets wood windows and doors um and so you there's a lot of weather challenges you know rain is a big deal over there so you got to work around that so um yeah so what about like could you show up in your big van with all your sprayers and all your equipment would painting look very different if you're working in London uh it would look a lot different because you can't just roll up in a in like one of our vans I mean there's no place to park I mean one of the places I was one of the paint stores I showed up at um the painter there he had a park and he had a walk 15 minutes you know just to get to the paint store and the paint stores do delivery um on bikes so kind of crazy I got um somebody's trying to get a hold of me and I got to message them so um um so because this is live this is live so we only have William is anybody else with us there's 19 people on so yep I can't read I keep having to have you used the new Benjamin Moore fence stain so my fence was you know arbot and needs to be yeah so I I believe Benjamin Moore you know got rid of arbic Coe so you lik AR ARB Coe was awesome probably the best solid color stain that I you know it's a waterborne solid color stain you know I started using expert stain in Seal products um they're semisolids and semi-transparent uh penetrating oil stains so on anything new wood I'm you know a big fan you know of penetrating oils now because you know what they actually add to the wood and increase the life the wood you know um help stop splitting checking cracking you know all that stuff but I haven't tried the question was have I tried Benjamin Moore's new uh product and I haven't but having to get too close um look at you oh it says I watched your aror coat video reviews and they were great by the way yeah so Arbor cro um I once again I hav been tried their new products I mean Benjamin Moore um across the board makes some really really good stuff so I'm definitely a fan of their um highend products um even their mid-range mid-range products are actually really good so so you had a really bad thoughts of oil and then you started using expert stains oil um penetrating oil why do you what do you like about them and what has changed your mind about using oil I mean one of one of the things like one of the challenges with uh stains in general you know staining fenes decks and stuff like that is LP marks um and lap marks overlaps and you you begin you know building on each other a run you know shows up really bad you know uh expert say you know oil is a self-leveling penetrating oil that you can L literally just like spray a ton on let it just run everywhere and it penetrates and eventually levels itself out and you'll never see that and and I have tested they say you don't have to back brush it I have actually test that and you don't on being a penetrating self-leveling oil it doesn't need to be back brushed um and it's absolutely amazing so uh the ease of like I think it's the ease of use of it um you know and you don't have to have as much Manpower you applying it typically water-based Coatings that you know we are so familiar with using them over the years you have to spray super saturate and um because they dry really fast somebody has to be right behind you back back rolling really quickly and so um it's definitely a Twan process so um you'll stain in Seal experts if youve seen me you recently doing a fence I was spraying a fence with an Aon rare just absolutely just saturating loading it on I didn't back roll at all and it absolutely looked amazing and so but isn't that the difference that it doesn't sit on the top it absorbs all the way through yeah what's kind of like and I've actually tested this myself so you can spray like saturate the the the front of that picket and you can take and cut that picket in half and you can actually see it it's penetrated all the way halfway through the picket you know within a day or two it'll literally actually penetrate all the way through the other side of the the picket if you put enough on and so it's a penetrating oil that never stops penetrating and it's an oil um it's a it's an like a high-end uh like I want to say kind of like food grade oil that goes in it adds something to the wood it keeps the fibers you know soft pliable keeps them from cracking uh splitting and checking because that's one of the things like over time the the wood is dry now um you could just literally scratch it the fibers will just fall off you're actually adding something to the wood and so you're increasing the life of your fence increasing the life of your perula or deck and so you know typically those are big Investments we've had you know a couple fences you know done like $5,000 I think was the last fence we had installed it's a lot of money and typically the the life of a fence up here is like 15 years if you can increase that fence's life you know five years 10 years you'll uh that's saving you a lot of money so um so let us know if you do the new Benjamin Mo what your thoughts are on it but Chris has um been trying expert stain's products and has really likes them so you're interested in their products we sell them at our store and they have a website so I haven't I haven't done a solid color stain you know um in a little while and so it's kind of why it if I end up doing one I'd end up using their new product but and I actually just spoke today to the owner of expert stain you asked them hey you know have you ever been involved with you know solid color stains and do you because he has a really your large um uh fencing you know company that you know codes fences Dax peras Etc and um you know they do get requests for solid color stains he doesn't have one um he said they're you know looking into creating one but they just use one of the vendors you know nearby them and use their products if they end up doing a solid color stain so if I end up getting one of those um here in the near future I'll be I'll be using Benjamin Moore's new product and then I'll do a review and let you know because you know my review of that product is kind of doesn't even matter anymore because they don't make it anymore so it's it's a new product yeah so if you're a painter in London you may be you like bike riding that might be the way that you get to work yeah I mean there was some guys that uh got to work on bikes and stuff so it's kind of interesting I mean that's why I never like understood like what's the point of the pry backpack so um yeah the pry backpack you know would be something you you live in a big city in London like you know a lot I can I can understand now why guys say you know they're really like pushing brushing and rolling well that's your only option in some cases you know if you're working downtown London because how do you get a sprayer to you know some of those locations so you really have to you know Master the art of brushing and rolling and and that's going to be what you predominantly you know do in the method of applying pain so I kind of get it and I get it where people would be you know you know saying you know you know I don't know I I guess I'll just end that conversation leave I'll leave it at that so okay I can't read from that far away what do you what do you think of houses painted in the Netherlands so oh so we did we went to the Netherlands Netherlands is beautiful oh my gosh so we went to am amst am um the architecture absolutely is incredible I I would like to do more the museums where they talked about the dkes is that what they're called that so that they're not flooded yeah like they close they close them off so doesn't flood yeah the canals how they how they engineered it I mean thousands of years ago yeah the Netherlands was I mean it was absolutely amazing the hes absolutely amazing that the architecture the um the brick homes but if you lived in Amsterdam yeah we saw a couple painting vehicles and big cars but it's it's hard to get around that City so yeah you have a Russian roller not I think what's interesting is there they build houses we build the houses I think the last you know 100 years here maybe maybe maybe I think I think different 75 years I think they build houses over there to um last 500 years and so yeah cuz they house it's insane is beautiful the the masonry work um stone work Sandstone work is absolutely incredible over there absolutely loved our stay over there um the people are amazing we went to a church over there and we got to see we had a um to Wi to church on Sunday yes we had a foreign exchange student that lived with us nine years ago so she's from there and so we got to go see her yeah so um Tony say for a house fence does stain or latex paint protect um fence better does stain or latex pain so a stain then what kind of stain so I I think if you're talking um because if you're staining a fence you could stain a fence with oilbased products or you can latex water-based products so um I think he's using the term stain as an oil so I mean I'll talk about the difference between stain and paint like a paint just stays on the surface it doesn't pen he didn't say stain or pain he said stain or latex so um a stain you know a stain even if it's latex water base it's meant to penetrate and not create a top Cod but a latex a waterbase cating it it it will absorb you know and and self- Prime and bite pretty well it adds a protective value from UV rays um water penetration um some things but when it comes to oilbased things now there is different qualities and grades in oilbased things so you have you know drying oils and non-drying oils now you know I've messed with both you know over the years and what I came to really hate and dislike and despise was drying oils and all the problems that came with drying oils and a drying oil doesn't add anything to the wood over time what I eventually learned you know um and through investigation and and talking with Caleb the owner of you know stain and seal experts and expert stain and seal you know his products that are penetrating self-leveling non-drying oils they have a drying component to it but it's a it's it's an oil that penetrates doesn't dry coats the wood adds something to the wood you know um keeps the wood soft pliable the wood fibers makes them last longer and and there's a huge benefit it to that and so what was his question um that was his question what's you what is better a stain or a latex and so I think the question is what is better an oil or a water-based coating so I think if you're trying to um make the wood look amazing both of them do the same thing if you're taking a brand new fence and you want to you know increase the life of that fence so if you want to take the homeowner's investment in you know make their investment last longer as well as look good a penetrating non-drying oil is going to be what you're after and you know you know waterbased Coatings and stuff there's some things some conveniences that are really nice about those products you clean up with water they're they're simple and easy to use uh you can make an offense offense look amazing with them but you're not adding anything to that wood it's still going to to you know um dry out split check crack Etc so so samon have you you can you can maybe try your phone now and see if it's popped up so all the paint over there is lime based so um I think that's probably talking over in the Netherlands so um that's what Dr shrer you says um it's it's interesting like um so I I was in quite a few paint stores in Crown paints um Brewers decorator centers I was in multiple paint stores over there and I did see you know a lot of paints that work lme based paints but um lime based paints you know are a thing over there so um latex paint is thick and you lose some of the wood grain so so he's talking about paint because you would never recommend painting a fence um well in still like latex so it you would never want to paint a fence um with paint I would highly so if you're if you're going to paint it what you know the process would be you do an oil primer with a a a primer then you would paint it which is to me just a bad idea and it's two steps versus taking a solid color stain and this is where people get confused so a solid a solid color stain looks just like a paint so it's opaque it's solid color it just acts differently than a paint a paint you'll creates a film a top coat over the wood a stain solid color stain absorbs into the wood itself is self priming so like Arbor coat um wood Scapes from Sher whims they are self- priming solid color stains and you still see all the wood texture it still looks like the wood it just you elim you eliminate you know the detail when it comes to like the colors in the wood the knots are a certain color you know all the different colors in the grain you just eliminate all that and so if you're priming it and then painting it you are starting to fill it in you are starting to eliminate some of the you know the the texture of the wood and the beauty of the wood so that's one of the benefits to you know like expert stain and seals stains here's another thing you know I'll just bring up is you know um you can do transparent you know oils but you know what you really want is pigment in there that protects the wood from the UV rays of the Sun and so that does a lot of damage it discolors the wood it Grays the wood so you know going up stepping up to a semi-transparent or a semisolid and and it's a expert um stain and seal when I I've used a lot of their semisolids really it's a semi-transparent to me I don't when I think of a semisolid I'm like you're almost getting to a solid color sa there's you still see all the all the colors in the wood and everything it's obviously their solid color is my favorite state so he said that all the paint over there is lime based do we have lime based paint here at all and why would we not have it or why would we have it I'm yeah I wouldn't be an expert in that so I could I'd have to do some research on that okay and so I know we have like lime wash lime and we add lime we do lime wash um products and stuff like that so I couldn't like when I was over there in Crown paints we decorated I saw a lot of um latex um Coatings emolion Coatings that were very similar to our Coatings but now when it comes to you know what the makeup um when it comes to the resins the Clays what's in them you know I couldn't say you know hey is it line based or not isn't it funny how you're on the the left side and but in reality you're on the right side confusing so I I I could read this now it says question I have a room in my house that has Stained Pine paneling that I want to paint white I've been sanding stained wood trim throughout the house are there any other ways without sanding you know it's no unfortunately not so I I Ed to like hate and despise sanding myself until I was introduced to um un's you know eaan Sanders and in their vacuum and now it makes sanding so simple it actually makes it fun it makes it easy it makes it dustless and you if you get yourself a ecosand 3x4 sander within Unita vacuum it's no longer going to be that painstaking…
