(20,001 characters)Got a few pretty cool tools we're going to be talking about today. One of them Apollo's now come out with a new 7700 atomizer gun. Brand new one. It's won some awards. The black edition. Pretty sick. Check that out. It's got four new features on it. Couple of the features are actually really, really cool. So, um we'll talk about that. That's pretty cool. I've got some other tools, you know, be showing you um some things I use. uh um brush covers the brush buddy. Um we'll be talking about whatever you want to talk about. So we'll wait till some people jump on. I'm testing out a new mic. So we'll see um the sound quality is any better, you know, with the mic versus um the computer. So, when I went back and watched the last live shows I've been testing with Reream, um the live shows, they sounded kind of like echoey and stuff. So, I think the mic on the computer wasn't that great. So, I um hooked up my Yeti stereo microphone and we'll see how, you know, that works. So, uh does it sound good? You know, the sound's good, video's good, let me know. Just um post right there. Can you hear what I'm saying? or can you not hear what I'm saying? So, feedback helps, man. We got Anton uh on here says, "Nice." So, we've got and I'm actually testing out running this live show. So, I I started using this new software called Reream and um to do my live shows because I'm going to start doing a lot of live shows, you know, coming up and I wanted something a lot easier than just, you know, YouTube's native um you know, their their native program on YouTube, which is kind of a pain in the neck. Here, Reream, I can actually stream on multiple platforms. I'm actually on YouTube, Facebook, Tik Tok, and Instagram live all at once. So, we're going to see how that goes. I see people. Um, Worms says, "Sounds good." Awesome. Um, Patter Peterson Barios, uh, hello Siri says, "Sounds good." So, Paul Oliver says, "Sounds good." Awesome. So, um, not echoey the last five shows. I know somebody said said it sounded a little echoey. It wasn't that big of a deal. Um, they said, but um, I went back watch and it was really annoying to me. out and um got my studio kind of like getting it dialed in. So, the lighting's uh looking a little bit better. Um everything's looking bit I paid for the upgraded version of the software so it um videos it in 1080p. But I was going to talk about this. I mean, I was just out um get in my spray booth and, you know, I was going over some stuff going to get ready to do some furniture and I got the new Apollo uh black version 7700 atomizer gun. It was um it was just brought out at the um I think I think it was the National Hardware Show I was just at in Vegas not too long ago. I go to like so many shows sometimes I forget is it was it IBS? Was it I think it was No, it was actually because Apollo was there. So Apollo goes to AWF AWFs and they go to um I always forget all these names. AWFs and um the woodworking show. I don't know WFS or something like that. I I don't know. I don't know. You can correct me um down below if you want. So I see people So uh Steve Boston. So it shows your last name first. So, um, well, actually, no, Paul Oliver his is so, so Steve's on there. He says, "So, it's pretty cool. I can show your comments up here. The software is pretty dang cool." So, um, I'm kind of digging it. So, it's making kind of this live show thing kind of pretty cool. So, um, anyways, the Black Edition. So, I don't know how many of you actually use Apollo's HBLP sprayers. I do. I use the Precision 6. Absolutely amazing. It's a six-stage turbine. No more thinning your products. Um, this new gun came out AWFs won um won an award. So, this gun has actually won, you know, multiple awards and it's it's super super cool, super rad. So, I love it. So, um, Heaven is cooler than fire. So, um, nice looking gun. So, yeah, it's So, one of the the new features about it is, um, the black coating on it. So, it's a matte black finish and it's a scratch resistant finish. So that is actually super super cool. My previous 7700 um atomizer gun, it's kind of got a metallic finish to it, like a gray metallic. Pretty awesome. I have scratched it, but it's awesome. So the matte black finish is absolutely absolutely great. My my race bikes are all black. So I like I like my bikes all black. This is all black except for they've got their um the caps, the air caps. They got different color air caps. Pretty cool. So, we got um Norman Cochburn um from Scotland. Let's go Scotland. Um man, um I was in Ireland um not that long ago. So, I I wasn't able to make it over to Scotland, but I was in Ireland. Um Premier Paint Brush and Roller out of New York. Um sent me over there to show up in a handful of uh paint stores. Um thank you very much, Premier, the manufacturer of um handmade paint brushes out of New York. handmade, the best paint brushes I've ever used. Absolutely love them. So, I went over there, got to um meet a lot of really cool p people over in Ireland. So, I was in Dublin, bounced around. I was uh got into London once again. And so, it's cool. Man, I do want to go to Scotland and um taste some scotch. So, um did um fall in love with um you know, the um um Guinness, man. Guinness over there is absolutely amazing. So, um, yeah. So, he says, um, right there, heaven is cooler than Ber says, I just use, um, I just use an airless sprayer. So, you know, I guess I could talk about, you know, airless sprayers versus HVLP sprayers. That would be a good, you know, topic since we're on that. So, you know, why do why do I use an HVLP sprayer, you know, for um furniture, cabinets, and rot iron fences? Um you you know one of the things is um the transfer rate of your product to your substrate is extremely higher with HBOP guns and um in sprayers and you can really control your fan pattern, you can control your pressure. Um you have a lot more control. But the products nowadays like the 2K poly's once you catalyze them they're like $120 a gallon and you know airless sprayers you lose a lot in overspray wet overspray on the ground just tons and tons of overspray that's money just falling to the ground and um you know it's all about margins and so um higher transfer rate of product significantly higher I think it's somewhere like a 40% or greater um transfer rate of the products. So, that actually is a a pretty big deal. the the overspray um just having the dust just when you shoot an airless sprayer like in my booth every time because I do use airless and I do use HVLP and occasionally on cabinets and stuff I'll use um an airless too and in my booth it's man the amount of like overspray surrounding me and dust in the booth is just incredible and so you you end up creating you know a lot of silica dust on the ground significantly more I'd say at least 50% you know more on the ground. So, um just the mess it creates is is another, you know, big factor. But, um an airless farad like the smallest tip you can get, I think, is like a 106 or something like that. So, you know, that that's a 2-in fan pattern. It's going to be about, you know, this wide. And, you know, on a a rod iron fence or on the edge of cabinet doors and stuff, you know, that's a lot of lost overspray and a lot of lost product. And especially at rod iron fences, it's astronomical how much you lose an in overspray using an airless sprayer, you know, versus an HVLP sprayer. And HBLP sprayer, you can dial it down literally. You can like draw your name on it. If you look, watch me at the show. I was actually, you know, riding, you know, with this. You can, you know, turn the pressure down an airless for you. Typically when I'm doing furniture cabinets, stuff like this. If I was using airless, I'd be at 2200 PSI. When I'm running my um precision 6, I'm usually around 9 PSI. So like 8 and a half, 9 and that's significantly difference. So 2200 you could actually inject yourself with paint. Uh which is dangerous. Um HVLP sprayer uh you cannot um there's you can put your hand over the gun, pull the trigger. Um, you're not going to inject yourself with pain. Um, Justin Berggo says, "Hey, Idaho. What's up, Justin?" So, we've got, um, Alabama. Oh, well, that's I was going to say, "Oh my gosh, my wife is over in Alabama." That's her. So, um, my wife is in Alabama right now. So, my daughter um is pregnant. She's due anytime. So, she's in Alabama for that, you know, pretty cool day. Um, we thought it was going to happen a couple days ago, but it didn't happen. So, and then my I got an my oldest daughter, Brooke, is um lives in Alabama. She's pregnant with her third. My um middle daughter, McKenna, is pregnant with um her first, and she's um and she's got two amazing adopted kids, too. So, this will be her third child. So, she um is due only they're due two weeks apart. So, somehow we've got to navigate that whole issue. So, um, got some questions. So, this is your your time to ask questions. So, you know, partly what I why I do this live show is so I can answer your questions here live. What's the quickest way to get um get a full to get a full schedule? Um, you know, I I would say um you know, to me, when I you know, started my painting company, I uh you obviously can go pay and pay a lot of money to advertise, pay for clicks. Um, you know, all that stuff. And if you've got my I see this frog tape hanging up here. This is uh that's kind of interesting. That was from my last live show. I'm kind of weird. Um, so that's gone. So So um to you know, you can pay money and do it. You can um use Facebook ads, um Google ads. I mean that will generate work. There's no question about it. But I tried to do everything at at zero cost. and and kind of just growth my halfway, you know, uh marketing wise. And so I did uh door hangers, did pull tags in, um grocery stores, I used Craigslist. I actually got work from Craigslist. Um and amazingly enough, and I I tell this story like all the time. Um but, you know, we have new people, you know, show up all the time, too. But um you know, door hangers are are king, man. They they work. They absolutely work. And I had, you know, one door hanger. Somebody called me, had it on his desk literally for eight years. And this is no joke. The guy called me eight years later said, "Hey, I've had this door hang on my desk for that long." I'm kind of like, now I'm just thinking about it. It's like, dude, this guy not clean his desk for eight years. Um, it probably looks like my desk. If you um saw this desk right here, you'd probably like be, damn, this guy's um messy. But, you know, how in the world did that door hanger stay on his desk for eight years? But it actually did. So he called me and asked me if the the discount was still good. And I said, you know, if you've had that thing for that long, it's still good. And um so I I've had, you know, multiple cases where people have called me four years later, 5 years later. So um if you go out and do door hangers one day and you don't um you get any calls that day, you never know. So don't stop and don't think, you know, it didn't work. So, um, we've got Hey, so guess who's, um, watching my show. So, my wife is in Alabama, and I told my wife to, um, tell my grandkids, "Hey, watch Papa. He's going to be live." So, this is a shout out to Troy and Asa. They're apparently watching my show. So, here's Pops. He's right here. He's live in Boise, Idaho. So, um, a shout out to two of my kids. And I told my my youngest daughter who has, um, another one of my grandkids, um, Abigail. I told to said, tell Abigail to watch my live show. So, um, we'll see if Abigail jumps on and has anything to say. So, um, door hangers absolutely, um, you know, work. I can't, um, say enough about it. Every time you do a job, put in the in a neighborhood, put five door hangers on one side down the street, five hangers door hangers on the other side, and 10 across the street. Every single job you do, whether you're busy or not, always do it. Market when you're busy, market when you're not busy. So, um I can't say it enough. And have a yard sign. Get your vehicle logoed up. Can't believe how many painters drive around. They don't have logos on the vehicle. Here's um a good thing is like when I wasn't busy, I would park my painting vehicle and it was huge. I put, you know, big logo depot. Um I park it in the parking lot. Um I would park it in um the local grocery store, right? Park it on a corner. Anytime I was at painting um because I wasn't busy or was the weekend or whatever, I would park my vehicles in a very prominent location where people could see it. So um so that's some quick advice. Do you ever go doortodoor for business opportunities? So, um I have a friend that just started a painting company and he's not a painter. Um he started a painting company called Boise Painters and um he's a salesman and you know salesman naturally can do that. They can go to door to door knocking on door knocking on doors and I can't he's already he just started. I don't think he's been in business for 6 months and he's like slammed and he literally just goes door to door just knocks on the people's door. They come to the door, they, you know, he says, "Hey, have you ever thought about I don't know what his pitch is, but have you thought about having your house painted?" He has no problem doing that. I could never do that for the life of me. There's no way I can knock on somebody's door um and just cold call. I can't I'm not a salesman. So, that's not in me. I can when somebody calls me for a bid, I can go there, do the bid, and I can sell myself when they've called me, but um I never could. But I'll tell you what, I I think I think door hangers would be more or um knock knocking door to door would be more effective than door hangers if you have that personality. So I know um Brady Boise Painters, that's what he's doing. Um and he's absolutely killing it. So and he's right here in the Boise, Idaho market. So, um, I have a pred a precessor 7500 gun for 11 years. Um, and use it with the 3M PPS system, original, not 2.0, and love it. Great for furniture cabinets, but wouldn't consider it for painting a room. So, an HVLP sprayer, I holding this gun. An H maybe it just gives me something to hold. An HLP sprayer is for on like small projects. I consider like a full set of kitchen cabinets. That's a small project. You would never want to paint um all the trim in your house with an HOP sprayer. You would never want to do a fence. Um you would never want to do large projects. It's not for volume. That's why area sprayers were eventually, you know, invented is um for high volume. So um in fast painting um fast application of the product. So, um, so you know, um, so I just lost my train of thought cuz, um, my grandkids are watching and I was just thinking, um, you know, what are they thinking that, you know, I'm doing? They're like, they're in Alabama and I'm sitting here and they're watching me going, "How is he like on TV?" And um, I'm downstairs in the basement, guys. So, um, so yeah. Um, so let me get back to we'll throw up another question. Um, like I so I use a great great um a Graco 9.0 HVLP compressor. I really struggle with the pot and splatters. Um, will this Apollo gun fix this? So I used to own a Graco 9.0. I owned um multiple, you know, Titan um the one I own the 95, the 115, the 105, all of them. I considered, you know, those units, those are like plugandplay units. Um, you know, the Titan has, you know, high and low. I couldn't remember that like the Paul or the Graco. It's been so many, um, years since I used it, but their guns, I mean, those are like entrylevel HVLP sprayers um, that you don't have, you know, nearly the control that you do with like an Apollo. And Apollo, you can turn the pressure up and down. It's got a digital readout dial. It tells you exactly what's coming out at the tip of the gun. So, I could really dial in my pressure to my specific products. This gun, I mean, you could just look at the gun and see the quality of the gun compared to, you know, a Graco and a Titan gun. This thing is absolutely amazing. You got a lot more control with a gun like this with your spray pattern than you do. You're going to have, you know, a better spray pattern, less overspray. You're going to be able to fine-tune it. um you're not going to get as much you know um stray stray splatters etc when you're spraying. So um you know I once again I started out um I think a Titan was the very first um HLP sprayer that I I got and I used it for years and it worked and it's like it's kind of like you can go to um Lowe's or Home Depot. Um, in Lowe's you can buy like Titan sprayers. I think Titan and Graco, Home Depot, you can buy Graco and it's like their X series and it's just do-it-yourself sprayers that are really rated for about 200 gallons. And um, I showed that you can spray a commercial building with it. I showed you can spray a house with it. Um, it'll spray paint and you can um, paint with it. A lot of professional painters buy them till they burn out, throw them away, buy another one. But you you don't have as much control, you know, over, you know, the the, you know, the spray patterns, the quality of the finish. Um, with those, you know, cheaper pumps, unlike the the um Control Max pumps, you're not going to get a super super um quality finish. If you're trying to paint like an automobile or super fine finishes on cabinets, you're just not going to be able to do it. But um but it, you know, it still works. I mean, you know, they work. So, um, you know, you can go down and at Harbor Freight and buy yourself an HVLP sprayer, but it really comes down to, you know, the quality, the finish, um, overspray, extract, etc. How much control do you want, you know, over your, um, over your, um, spray pattern and stuff. So, when you're when when you start, you know, spraying with, you know, high-end um products that are $120 a gallon, you definitely want to get it right and you want to match, you know, the the sprayer with the products you're spraying. So, um you know, I it totally, you know, changed my game when I jumped up to an Apollo Precision. I started with a Precision 5 and I went to Precision 6, man. And um absolutely amazing. the Precision 6 being a six-stage turbine, you don't have to thin your paints anymore. And so, um, you know, you the the PPS system, somebody just brought up PPS and the PPS system, you know, it has throwaway liners out of it and air pressurizes the PPS system and it sends the product through. And those are actually pretty cool systems. I've used them, but um, I typically don't use them day in and day out. So, shout out to the grandbabies. Bobby Willis says, "Cool. Thank you, Bobby. So, I got to catch up with some more questions. Would you ever sell jobs with tier one, tier 2, tier three? Um, good. Uh, like good, better, best. Um, so let me pull that up again. So, would you ever sell jobs with tier one, tier? So I don't know like um if this is what you know Ernie you know if this is what you mean by that but um I always when I would go bid a project I never said okay you know give um give you an option to like use cheaper paint to get a cheaper price. When I bid a project I always use lifetime warranty sealants. I also use lifetime warranty paints on every job. And if the customer said well I'm just want to sell the house. Well I didn't care. And um and say say for instance the the estimate was $4,000 and the customer, you know, wanted to save $300 and say, "Would you just use um you know, weatherclad?" I called it weather crap is what I called it, but would you just use that paint to save me some money because I'm just going to sell the house. What I what I did is I like I'd say, "Look, I'll give you $300 off the estimate. Um and but I'm still going to use a lifetime warranty coding. And if I'm not willing to go down $300, I still I I would not use cheaper paints. Cheaper…
