(19,999 characters)It's around 5:30, so we're going to be talking about painting disasters, things that have gone wrong on my job sites and how I've handled them. If you've got anything to share, if you got any questions to ask, make sure you ask your questions right here. So, my live shows are always uh your opportunity to ask questions. So, I do encourage that. So, let's um I'll throw right here um throw it up Q&A. Ask your questions in the chat. So, I'll try to last time I don't think I got to all the questions, you know, but I want to talk about, you know, disasters that have happened, you know, on my job sites in the past, you know, and um and how how I actually handled them. And so I have a some pretty some stories that costed me a lot of money. Um I think the like the the worst that I've ever you know costed me on a job I think there was one that cost me somewhere around I think I I don't know my wife will have to correct me. I know was over $30,000. Um I know there was another one that was in the $5,000 range. So, I've had some things that costed me some money in the past. So, um you know, it's it's not, you know, if it's going to happen, it's when it's going to happen and how you actually, you know, handle those situations, you know, that are going to determine, you know, um how it goes for you. So, you know, I'll um I have I I wrote down a list, you know, I just it was interesting because I um I was like, "Okay, what disasters have actually happened to me?" And in about five minutes, I listed off um looks like 15 on this piece of paper. So, um I'm not short of disasters, you know, on job sites. So, that's for sure. So, um we've got people jumping on. So today I I'll be talking about, you know, disasters that have happened to me and and I'm sure, you know, there's been disasters happen to you guys, too. So, uh, we've got Tom the Bomb is on. So cool. Uh, also, you know, in the chat, you can give a shout out to your company. Um, you know, like Tom the Bomb. I have no idea who you guys what the name of your companies are and stuff. Uh, it' be pretty cool, you know, to hear. Chris Smar um is um jumped on. So Chris, I just wanted to let you know I watch all the time and I greatly appreciate you and your videos. So Chris, um cool name. So um awesome, man. I I really appreciate you guys watching. Anybody that jumps on here and um is spending their day watching me, you know, I appreciate it. I only exist because you guys actually watch me ask questions, you know, and stuff. So um cool. So both of you guys are from YouTube. So, I'm actually live on YouTube, Facebook, Tik Tok, and Instagram. And I don't even know how it even looks on Instagram or um Tik Tok and if people actually get notified. I know there has been people jumping on here asking questions from Tik Tok, you know, before and Facebook and stuff. So if you're on Tik Tok and then you're on Instagram, it'd be cool if you like just said something in the chat. So I can tell that you know it's actually live there. Um whether I don't it doesn't even matter. So um anyway, so disasters that have happened to me. David um David jumped on cat walking through the paint. So um and that just brings up a one dis disaster that happened to me that's pretty funny. And this wasn't even on my list, but since she brought up cats. So, this customer um we were painting her house and she said, "Whatever you do, the cat can't the cat can't get outside." And this cat was obnoxious. It it it actually did walk through our paint. It peed on one of our drop cloths and it was just getting in our way. It was so annoying. And you know when you're trying to walk in and out the doors and there was um like a storm door on there and it kind of like closes you know slow when you walk out the door and eventually you kind of like you're just moving fast and and we got there and the house was a disaster. The whole thing was just a disaster. And anyways like midway through the day I go out the door and the door doesn't close fast enough. Boom. The cat the cat goes outside. I I just absolutely panic because the customer is like, "Whatever you do, the cat can't get outside." And I'm like, "I'm so screwed. This cat's going to run away. It's going to get hit by a car. What am I going to do?" And me and one of my employees, we're trying to catch this cat and it's in a bush and stuff and we're like trying to corn it. We're running around and it's like the stupidest thing. And so I finally, and I wasn't thinking like wisely, but I finally grabbed this cat, you know, I reached down, grabbed it, and it freaked out, and it just went crazy. And if you know cats, if you got cats, cats got claws, and their claws are really sharp. That thing just started like going at me and like attacking me and it like just cut me all over my chest on my arms. I ran into the door, threw it inside the house, and oh my gosh. And so, needless to say, I had like battles all over me. And what was crazy about the whole thing is when the customer came home, I said, "Oh my gosh, I I because I'm always honest about everything with my customers." And I think that's one thing I'll I want to instill right here. Um, don't ever try to hide anything from your customers. Always be honest. So, I told her, "Hey, the you know, the cat got out. I eventually got it got it back inside and she's like, "Oh, it was no big deal if it gets outside." And so, and I'm like, "Well, you told me in the middle of the day it couldn't get outside." She's like, "Well, I mean, yeah." And so, anyway, she it was no big deal, she said. And so, I got shredded by the cat. So, dumb cat. And um I couldn't believe it. So, we do have um Daryl House is on, so he's um checking in. Check check. He's on Facebook. So, um he saw it live. I'm just curious like did you get a notification? How did you even know know that it was live, you know, on on Facebook? So, Michael Horton's on um and the cath thing brings up another one. I didn't even write this down. I'm going to tell you this one. This was absolutely insane. Um and it involves horses. So, probably one of the scariest disasters I ever had, you know. So, Michael Horton um he says, "Like the show, learned much disaster on elevated um elevated water tank, stepping onto um seatboard and rope, having fallen into battery acid, fell to fibers while having 90 lbs paint line on the belt. Exciting." Oh my. So, um I'm not the only one that has a disaster. So, I I'll bring this thing up. And this one was horses. And so just like the dumb cat, this customer has horses. They're out in the back pasture. We're painting, you know, their house and stuff. And he said, "Whatever you do," cuz we had to go, we had to paint the house and then we had to paint the horse stable. So we put the the horses out in the back pasture and um so we can actually paint the stable. And we had to go in and out, you know, these dumb like these doors and things to paint these stables. And um and so we're trying to keep an eye on these horses. And so lo and behold, uh one of my employees leaves this the one of the gates open. Horses escape out of the back pasture and they're in the backyard. And we're running around freaking out like panicking. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. And and we corner the horse and we we get the horse back in the back pasture and I swear I was just like my heart was pounding. I'm like um just dying. And so, um, and and I didn't understand like why, like, you know, what's the big deal about the horses getting out in the backyard? They're just going to eat the grass. And so, I'm just like, "Oh my gosh." So, the horses, we get them back in the back. And so, like a couple hours later, lo and behold, same employee leaves the gate open again. Horses escape. And so, now the horses are running around. And all of a sudden, it dawned on me why the horses can't get in the backyard. They have a pool. and the pool has um a cover over it and if the horses run fall in the pool, they're gonna wound up in in the cover and the horses are going to drown. And so this is like really bad. So this was absolutely insane. So um we're running around. I got four employees were running around trying to like get the horses and the horse didn't want to be caught and it's running going crazy and all excited and it wanted to eat things and eat the the you know the bushes and stuff and I I was like I was absolutely dying. This h customer is going to kill me. The horse is going to fall in the pool. It's going to drown. There's multiple horses. This was insane. We eventually got one horse out in the back pasture. This other one just run around going crazy and I'm just dying. And one of my employees is like, "Just settle down. Settle down. I can handle this." And he starts talking to the horse. And eventually he was the horse whisperer. This was the craziest thing. He ws over. He like calmly starts talking to the horse, speaking to the horse in some horse language, and eventually just puts his hand out. The horse just um sits down like just um gives him his hand and he walks the horse to the pasture. We locked them in. No horses died. And that was absolutely insane. That was And the customer never found out, you know, about that. The horses didn't drown. They didn't drown. But man, that could have been like so bad if the horses would have one of the horses fallen in the pool. That would have been just bad, bad, bad. So, we've got um K2 Painting in the house. So, big shout out to K2 Painting. So, um cool. Uh Keith, that's Keith, man. So, um cool. Where's your painting company at? Dude, I love your channel. I've been painting for maybe five years now. I learned um let's see, I've learned a ton. Thank you for all the knowledge. Awesome mud man. So cool. Um that was like um shout out to K2 P K2 painting. Wrong one. So um got some So I'm talking about disasters. If you if you've just jumped on, I'm talking about, you know, some of my disasters I've had, how I've handled them, and I'm going to give you some advice of how to handle, you know, painting disasters, you know, that might happen on your job sites. Because, like I said, um before, you know, it's not if, but it's when it happens. And it's not, you know, when it happens once, it's not going to happen just once. It's not going to happen twice. But I've got a whole list of disasters I wrote here on this paper. And I've already remembered two from you guys refreshing my mind with horses and cats that um ended up not too bad. So it didn't cost many money. So that's always good. So Paul Terry, you um ever painted stain or concrete in the summer um and it bubbles up. Um you know, I've had bubbling issues. Yeah. On um concrete outgassing stuff like that. There's a lot of different scenarios with concrete, you know, that could cause stuff like that. So, um, you know, I would have to know a lot of the circumstances and stuff and, you know, what it was, um, temperature, what type of product and stuff, but you can, yes, you can have problems. I've had epoxy floors, outgass and bubble and stuff. And so, um, that's another disaster that happened to me before. So, um, um, Milwaukee Metro um, in the house. So Keith, so Oak Tree painting out of Bay Area, California. What's up, Carlos? Um, Bay Area, San Francisco. I'm originally from SoCal. So, um, I'm California native, but been in Idaho, I don't know, like 35 years, something like that. So, I'll tell you, um, another another story, you know, um, gutters. So this customer, you know, had this big long, you know, stretch gutters on their house and it was a seamless stretch of gutters and um you know, you can always a lot of times um sometimes you can access on a gable in stuff like that. Most of the time you could access the house without actually putting the ladder on the gutters. Sometimes you can't. This c this house you could not. Um we leaned the um the um ladder on there, had a bunch of employees, somebody wasn't paying attention. Eventually, I realized noticed um the gunner was bent and I was like, "Oh my gosh." And um and I noticed that the employee tried to like um bend it back and it ain't going to happen. There's no way. It's like nothing you can do. You can't bond to it. You can't do anything. So, I had to go tell the customer, "Hey, you know, um the uh we bent your gutters." And he's like, "I just had those installed." But I'm like, you know, whatever it cost to replace it. He's like, well, here's the he sends me the estimate of what it actually cost them in that one strip of gutter was $500. So, so this is that was that was probably one of the least expensive um things. What I eventually learned um and I came upon this device right here, the gutter guard. And so, you can see it right on the screen. There's a QR code. This thing right here. So, this thing, anytime you actually put a gutter or a ladder on a gutter, use this and you will never bend or scratch your gutters. So, uh this was one of those learning lessons. I didn't own one of those these back then. I don't even know if they made them at that point in time, but eventually way way a long long time ago, um I got a hold of these one of these. It's called the Ladders Little Helper. They're now orange. Every single painting vehicle should have one of those in it. It's an absolute must. Don't ever lean a ladder on a gutter because you're going to scratch it or bend it. And I've done it more than once. So, um I I actually I drilled a bigger hole in it right here. So, it actually just hangs, you know, on a on a thing in my trailer. So, it's there. Uh this is the original one that I had um from Dave. They'll never typically never break. They'll last forever. It's a onetime investment. Uh get one. There's a QR code right there. If you don't have one, you need to get one. So, um I I'll tell you another like um you know, just a quick story. Um uh well um I'll go back to like because I wanted to tell you like you know one of the things about you know mistakes. It's not once again it's not if but it's when it's going to happen. And the difference between one of the differences between a um an apprentice and a journeyman is that a a journeyman knows how to fix all the mistakes an apprentice doesn't. They don't have enough experience. So when disaster strikes, a journeyman will will stay calm and um take care of the mistake and fix it. And you don't want to panic. And you know, it goes back to early on in my career. My um partner um Darren, you know, we were doing a a a stained door, pickle stained door. It it went disastrously wrong and we we messed up the door. And so, um and it was early on in my career when like every dollar mattered and this was going to cost, you know, me and him money. Um I needed to put food on the table. It wasn't funny to me. I literally was in tears and he he looked at me and he started laughing and I'm just like I was so mad because it wasn't funny to me and I literally had tears in my eyes cuz I it was going to cost me a lot of money and Darren like looked at me and just laughed. He said, "Chris, why are you getting so worked up over this?" And you know, it's no big deal. When the customer comes home, I'll write her a check for a brand new door. I don't care. It doesn't mean that much to me. And and it right then I realized, you know, at that point in time, you know, disasters are going to happen and it's how you handle the situation. Don't let it get you down. Don't let it get you upset. It's not worth it. It's just money. Um, and Darren said, "We need to just get to the next job and earn the money to pay for this door. So, let's, you know, get this job done, get out of here, and go fix it by making money on the next job. So, you just got to like take care of the disaster and just move on. And you're, as a painter, you're going to make money. You're going to make lots of money. I made lots of money every time, you know, even the one that was um it was it was somewhere between 30 and $60,000 that I was I was sitting in court and the attorney said, "Do you want to continue on with this, Chris?" He said, "If you go to court, if we go to yod district court and go and um and have a jury trial, it's a 50-50 chance of winning this thing." And I and inside it was I was right. And it was my pride and everything. And he said, "If you lose, it's going to cost you several hundred,000. You can write this person a check." So what it was, I had her I had to write the person a check with $30,000. He said, "You could write her a check right now and she'll walk away from this." And then obviously I had to pay his fees, too, which was somewhere in that same um range. So, I walked away paying somewhere around $60,000 for that mistake. And it was all centered around um wax bleed, a house with wax bleed. If you if you've never heard about this, um you better know about it. So, it could cost you a lot of money because it costed me a lot of money. So, um it was a house that had wax bleed and um they blamed it on me. wax bleed is not the painter's fault. It's defective sighting. But um that one costed me a lot. So um I don't even know I got like onto that. But um so to to me it's it's a matter like how you handled the situations like that one. I could have like just let my pride continue on and I continued on too far to where it even cost me too much money. But, you know, you just got to eventually just look at it logically. And it's like, you know, I need to just walk away from this. And I I was sitting there in there. And when I wrote that check, um this this was the point I was trying to get to is like I I finally got so fed up because I was in this court and with um this this hearing for so long, it I was sitting there losing money while I was there. I just told my attorney um not like a bunch of words. I was like, I gotta get the crap out of here to pay this off. The longer I sit here, the more money I'm losing. I need to just get out of there like a bat out of hell. Like, I got to pay five houses to pay pay this off. So, I need to say that was that was that story. So, you know, um another one was is um another story that happened to me. Let me make sure I the chat like um I haven't been paying attention to the chat. I got to do like more things at once. Um, let's see. Oak oak tree painting out of Bay Area. We saw that one. Um, we've got um that's a long name. Um, that's in Spanish. I don't have a thing that will um Manny Manny Fresco, thank you um for everything you do and God bless you, my friend. Thank you for watching. Appreciate it. Daryl's in the house. So, Daryl, do we got anybody from Tik Tok in the house? precision paint and renovate LLC Michigan. Go Blue. Um, there you go. Go Boise State. Go Michigan. Um, pretty cool. We actually play Notre Dame coming up. So, I I'm kind of because I see people on here from Facebook and YouTube, but I haven't seen anybody from Tik Tok or um Instagram. So, um, let's see. Precision. Um, let's see. We got out front door metal. um our front door metal sunfacing started bubbling full strip and can um or can we sand and redo it? Um everything so it's a um so it's a metal door. It started bubbling and stuff to me like I've handled a lot of different ways before. Sanded it, bonoed it and stuff. I I would actually just get kabos. Get kabos. It's a water-based um stripper. It's so simple and easy to do. I'd lay that thing down, put some kibos on it, go off, start painting, do some other stuff. Man, it'll strip the paint off like fast, and it'll strip it down to the bare metal, and it it works quick. You can actually like leave this stuff on overnight, 24 hours, and it'll go through like 15 coats of paint. I've used it multiple times for a lot of different stuff. I just had some videos getting it paint out of carpet that was bin primer that had been in there for years. And so it works and it'll strip it down to bare metal and then just repaint it. That would be like my suggestion. Probably the simplest easil…
